Mamata Banerjee agrees to caste census if all parties agree

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said that all political parties will accept the caste system if they agree. Mamata made the statement after a 10-party delegation headed by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and demanded a caste census.

If there was a discussion and there was a consensus, I have nothing to do with it. I cannot fight against it if all political parties and states agree. He said political parties, chief ministers and the central government would come to a consensus. He declined to comment further on the issue, saying emotions vary from one state to another. Nitish has put forward his questions in this regard (caste census). Let's see how others react to it. After the Prime Minister's visit, Nitish had said that the caste-based census would help in developing a development plan.
