As police departments are the first line of state and local law enforcement, they perform a variety of social service functions in order to keep community residents safe.
Another critical part of a police social worker's role is training police officers in social work engagement techniques.
Police do fight crime, to be sure — but they are mainly called upon to be social workers, conflict mediators, traffic directors, mental health counsellors, detailed report writers, neighbourhood patrollers, and low-level law enforcers, sometimes all in the span of a single shift.
Law enforcement, however, is inherently authoritarian whereas social work is nurturing and supportive. Whereas police make communities safer by removing criminals from the general population, social workers make communities more harmonious by working to mend the tattered social fabric. and Indian POLICE does Both with both Arms for a single salary and for a Single Motto/Dream. that is " Together we make this society safe for us".
